1.8.15 RIVERSHORE BAR & GRILL TRIVIA
Dice wants to say a huge thank you to the teams that call the Rivershore home. Wow...You impressed!
TJ-ing at a new venue is usually a miss affair. Often it is awkward and weird, like an arranged first date that also happens to be the wedding night. Occasionally, however, something special happens and there is an instant chemistry that results in a bond that may end up being permanent. I've learned not to let Dice freak whenever I takeover a show, as it can take weeks or longer to figure out what a particular show needs to be successful, but the crew at Rivershore wasted no time getting into the Trivia spirit. I can honestly say, Dice and I are already excited about 7pm next Thursday!
TEAMS: Quickly learning the power of Dice's Trivia playlists, the STRAIGHT SHOOTERS (64) aimed low on the final round (wagered zero) and watched as the competition shot themselves in the feet trying to post big scores. VAN OWLS (52) outsmarted everyone through regulation, but flew into trouble in the final round with the wrong Bulldog. The ITTY WITTY TEAM (54) could have ended the night right, on top with a 69, but they tried to go deep on the final and ended up on the bottom of a significantly less pleasurable 54. FORCE OF ONE (42) sprinted out of the gates in each half, perfectly answering both the first and fourth rounds, but an ill-advised max wager on the final dropped him to fourth place.
TRIVIA: Like Scarlett Johansson, Dice and his lovely Trivia-widow escaped to scenic and rural Montana to get married. We landed way up north on Highway 2 in the tiny town of Joplin, Montana for our non-celebrity wedding. ScarJo and her husband, French journalist Romain Douriac, secretly wed last October 1 in a ceremoney in Philipsburg, Montana, located off the interstate about midway between Butte and Missoula. With luck, the County Clerk where they wed will have decidedly more skill at creating their Marriage License than ours, which required several corrections and still looks like a fake!
For this question, Dice dusted off "Relator" from ScarJo and Pete Yorn's 2009 duet album, "Break Up." Yorn conceived the album concept, "two people vocalizing their relationship through duets," in a dream and was inspired by French singer and composer Serge Gainsbourg's 1968 duet album "Bonnie and Clyde" with bombshell Brigitte Bardot. Yorn claims ScarJo is the next Bardot, but Dice is just content to keep ScarJo on his "list"...
TUNES: Everyone knows Dice takes creating the perfect playlist to absurd extremes, but like this whole show at the Rivershore, sometimes something magical happens and you get what may have been Dice's best Trivia playlist ever!
The Allan Parsons Project "Sirius" introduced Dice to the home crowd at the Rivershore. "Boom Shak-a-Lak" by Apache Indian and The Proclaimers' "Get Ready" from the Dumb and Dumber OST helped us with the Movies category. Dice surprised a few with the Trampled By Turtles' incredible cover of the Pixies' "Where Is My Mind," but the crowd returned the favor stunning Dice with their exuberance during "Zorba the Greek."
In Dice's mind, dropping the mash-up "Little Talks Wake Me Up" from Of Monsters and Men versus Avicii featuring Aloe Blacc during the Mash-up category was possibly his greatest selection of all time! It was more of a gift than I usually like to give, but I just couldn't resist.
See you next Thursday Rivershore...Can't wait!
