1.13.15 Cider Mill Trivia
Less than 24 hours after his favorite team's defeat in the inagural college football championship, Dice swallowed his tears and headed out to the Cider Mill to be among Trivia friends. Several teams quickly turned Dice's frown upside-down with their hilarious incorrect answers and, thankfully, a few even helped Dice drown his feelings in beer.
TEAMS: Transforming Dice's playlist into points tonight, FEMBOTS HAVE FEELINGS TOO (82) made connections even Dice couldn't and ran away with the big prize! VAN DE GRAF & THE GENERATORS (75) finished the last two rounds of the contest perfectly and snagged yet another Cider Mill gift certificate. TRIGGER HAPPY BUNNIES (71) hit the target on only 2 of 10 questions through the difficult middle rounds, but found their aim true in the second half with seven consecutive correct answers to capture our final award. SCRATCH N' SNIFF (70) had no remedy for the diabolical fifth round despite covering the final question beautifully. SILLY SCALLOPS (67) were the smartest dudes in the room at times, but a slow start in the second half crushed their dreams of Trivia glory.
TRIVIA: 90210 is probably the most famous ZIP code in the entire United States Postal Service's system of codes that were designed to help organize the modern, nationwide postal service. Initially developed in the 1940's within larger urban centers, 2-digit postal zone numbers would be included on some addresses to speed up delivery. In the 1960's, the USPS had to develop a better system for dealing with a booming population and increased needs for their services. In 1963, at the same time as adopting the two-letter state abbreviations common today, the post office started using the 5-digit identification code on addresses. The first three digits of the ZIP code indicate which sectional mail facility the mail is destined for, the final two digits show exactly which postal office the mail is to be delivered from. By the late 60's, the ZIP code system had been adopted nationwide for all mail formats and the USPS even created a cartoon mascot named "Mr. Zip" to promote the new system. TUNES: Nothing inspires Dice to keep doing what he does more than when a team is able to find the connections between the playlist, the questions, and the answers. Dice has been called a "sneaky bastard" enough times to know he is one, but nothing gives me more joy than capturing a team's "lightbulb" moment. Tonight, the FEMBOTS found more inspiration than usual in Stan Bush's "The Touch" located on several movie soundtracks. Dice liked the song from the 1986 animated film "The Transformers: The Movie," but Fembots remembered Dirk Diggler brutally recorded the track in the movie "Boogie Nights," which apparently was all they needed to answer "Transformers 4." Well played Fembots, well played!
"Actual Cannibal Shia LaBeouf" from Rob Cantor befuddled and amused, Postmodern Jukebox's cover of "Thrift Shop" is actually enjoyable to listen to, and Florence + The Machine's "Dog Days Are Over" inspired one of the Bunnies to a spirited table-drum solo performance. Dice also discovered Technotronic's "Pump Up The Jam" and the Quad City DJ's "Space Jam" are pretty much the same song.
I also really wish I would have played THIS instead of this...maybe next time.
Have a great week Cider Mill! See you next Tuesday!
-Dice
