1.19.15 Malone's Cafe - Trivia
Dice added several new teams to the Malone's mix this week, as we begin Week 3 of our Winter League. The newbs were quickly assimilated into our Trivia family and our show went off without a hitch (Unless you count missed questions...there were a few of those...).
TEAMS: RIP CITY (71) buried the competition like Damian Lillard in the 4th quarter, completing the improbable worst-to-first finish on the final round. Splinter Trivia team, INTERRUPTING (turtle) 66, snapped up the geniuses from a couple other teams and patiently waited for the competition to bet their way out of contention. BJ'S RIGHT BOOB (64) slipped out (of first) at the end, but were enjoyable to play with all night!
DRINKING MAKE U SMARTER (57) accidentally registered his team without a "S" proving their name true long before Dice's Trivia did. League stalwart SIT UBU SIT (56) needs to learn how to STAY. Newcomers to Malone's, MY DRINKING TEAM HAS A TRIVIA PROBLEM (52) solved most of Dice's "Tricky" questions, but a big final round wager left the room spinning. POOP CHUTE RIOT got messy in the third round, recovered through the second half, then self-defecated again on the final round. JV TEAM second-guessed themselves all night, correctly answering several questions only to cross out the right answer for a wrong one.
TRIVIA: Like the porcupine, every Trivia team stabbed themselves tonight trying to guess what a baby "spined pig" is called. Dice did his best to help, playing Smash Mouth's "Pet Names," but an anti-social ensued.
Porcupines are the third largest of the rodents (behind capybara and beavers) growing to nearly 3 feet and up to 35 lbs. They are indigenous to the Americas, parts of Asia, Europe, and Africa and every subspecies has a coat of spines or quills that are used to defend itself against pretty much everything (including themselves...). Porcupine quills have a natural anti-bacterial covering which prevents the porcupine from infection by self-inflicted injury. Typically nocturnal, porcupines are herbivores consuming leaves, twigs, and plants like clover.
TUNES: Tony Tisdale's "Catwalkin'" joined "Relax" by Frankie Goes to Hollywood and "I'm Too Sexy" from Right Said Fred for our Fashion-themed halftime round. Hugo's "99 Problems" cover was fantastic on the big speakers and Sublime's "Jailhouse" got the crowd's heads bumping. "Tainted Love" by Soft Cell inspired our Romeo and Juliet answers. Dice enjoyed dropping That Handsome Devil, Natasha Bedingfield, and Devo, but his favorite of the night was Plastic Bertrand's "Ca Plane Pour Moi" from European Vacation (among others).
I will see you next (and every) Monday at Malone's! Until then, have a great week!
