1.15.15 Rivershore Teams/Trivia/Tunes Recap

1.15.15 Rivershore Bar & Grill - Trivia

Seriously. Next Thursday. January 22nd. You gotta go play Trivia at the Rivershore in Oregon City. Dice's second week hosting on the beautiful Willamette River was another incredible showing from the home crowd. Dice sends much love and appreciation to the staff at the Rivershore, who work extra hard taking care of everyone!

TEAMS: STANLEY CUPCAKES (86) hoisted the big gift certificate tonight after overcoming a disastrous halftime, by completely dominating the second-half and final round. VAN OWLS (75) only missed two questions all night, but would've preferred Betty White's hip-hop, hippie to the hippie, the hip, hip a hop, and you don't stop to any of the more Beastie, Outkast artists Dice spun like Eminem. Unfortunately, the wise and witty FORCE OF ONE (66) is bidding Oregon adieu for a few months, but he'll be back cause that gift certificate he won tonight isn't good until tomorrow! BRICK (56) banged his head against the wall for a couple of ambitious wagers. Nobody puts TABLE IN THE CORNER (53) except themselves.

TRIVIA: One of the most recognizable and most popular breed of horse, the Arabian horse originated at least 4500 years ago in the Arabian Peninsula. Prized for their endurance, speed, and strength;  Arabian bloodlines can be found in nearly every modern breed of riding horse. The breed was developed and domesticated by the Bedouin people after they learned how to use the camel throughout the desert region. Arabians were spread throughout Asia and Europe through trade and the spoils of war, particularly upon the return of the victorious Crusaders. As the use of knights decreased throughout Europe, the demand for the large war horses needed to carry them was replaced by the need for the lighter and faster Arabians to support the cavalry-style attacking that was becoming more popular. This led to the strengthening of many European breeds and bloodlines and the development of several successful breeding programs throughout Europe. A second large influx of Arabian bloodlines in Europe occurred in the 1520's when the Ottoman Empire sent warriors on 300,000 pure-blooded Arabians into Hungary and Austria. The Ottomans reached Vienna before being defeated by Polish and Hungarian armies. These captured Arabians became the foundational bloodstock for much of Europe. Arabian bloodlines arrived in the Americas with the Spanish Conquistadors. Although not pure-blooded, some of these captured or escaped horses from these expeditions became part of the foundation stock of the American Mustang. Arabian bloodlines in America and Russia were further strengthened after World War II, as each benefited from the spoils of war of captured horses and the destruction of many of Europe's best breeding operations. In 1908, 71 pure-blooded Arabians were registered for the Arabian Horse Registry of America. By 1994, that number reached more than 500,000. Today, there are more American Arabians registered than the rest of the world combined.

TUNES: Apparently everyone missed "A Horse With No Name" by America ("...been through the desert...") because nobody answered that one correctly. Sugar Black's reggae cover of "Fly Like An Eagle" and Steve Miller Band's "Jet Airliner" helped us take off on a couple aviation-related questions. Capital Cities "Breathe," an awesome mash-up of Pink Floyd and 2Pac, joined mash-ups of Adele vs. Daft Punk and Robin Thicke vs. Bart Simpson to keep the Rivershore crowd delightedly confused! Dice's favorite of the night..."Holdin On To Black Metal" from My Morning Jacket.

Hey Rivershore...I hope you're ready for more Trivia, cause Dice is coming back this Thursday at 7pm! See you there!
