1.7.15 On Deck Sports Bar & Grill

1.7.15 ON DECK TRIVIA

It isn't often that a Wednesday show needs to be cancelled due to schedule conflicts, but each of the past two holiday "Eves" have fallen on hump day (and Thanksgiving just weeks before that...) giving Dice days off that he probably doesn't deserve! Needless to say, it was amazing to be back among the many friends at the ON DECK SPORTS BAR & GRILL for our first Trivia show of 2015.

TEAMS: GIRLS NIGHT OUT (77) outmanned the competition, earned every bonus point and missed only 5 questions all night to secure top honors. ADAM BROWN STAIN LANE (69) coulda, woulda, shoulda wagered something on the final had they only known they aced it. OREGON'S FINEST (62) triumphantly returned to On Deck and watched the contenders stumble down the stretch.

JUST THE TIP (56) went all the way in on the final round, but plunged too deep and missed their shot at glory. BATMAN & ROBIN LOPEZ (50) benched themselves in the final, wagering everything in an effort to start the 2015 Winter Trivia League off right. NINE INCH MALES (46) and MEOW (45) didn't miss many questions, but wasted big wagers on the ones they did.

TRIVIA: The final standings of most Trivia shows frequently hinge on one or two key questions, but more often comes down to the wagering on those key questions. Tonight was no different as several teams lined up to answer "Ivory" and wager max points on the opening question of the sixth round, but each sat stunned as Dice announced that the natural material banned in 1973 and used for combs, guitar picks, and sunglasses was TORTOISESHELL! Come on Trivia teams...Dice played "Cheap Sunglasses" by ZZ Top. Have you ever seen ivory sunglasses? That's what I thought.

Ivory's worldwide ban didn't occur until 1989 when the United States and other countries joined together to try to put an end to the ivory trade. Despite these conservation efforts, the illegal ivory trade continues relatively unabated in many Asian countries as well as the United States and continuing to decemate worldwide elephant populations.

TUNES: Fleetwood Mac's "Tusk" (featuring the University of Southern California Marching Band, "Spirit of Troy") kicked off the final round, delighting both Dice and GIRLS NIGHT. BATMAN & ROLO didn't need "Satellite" by Guster, but one of them has met the band several times causing Dice great envy. "Electric Worry" from Clutch was clutch, even if nobody needed it.

Have a great week Trivia teams...see you next Wednesday at On Deck!
