1.18.16 Civic Taproom - Trivia

1.18.16 CIVIC TAPROOM - TRIVIA **OPENING NIGHT**

If there's one thing that makes Dice nervous, it's starting a new show at a new venue. Usually, Dice is worried nobody will show up. Tonight, my biggest fear was finding close enough parking to haul my equipment, because a full dozen Trivia teams packed the Civic Taproom for our first show!

The Civic Taproom is a unique Trivia venue. There are probably half a dozen fridges stocked with a regularly rotating collection of incredible bottled beer from all over the world. Patrons can purchase these for consumption on premises or to take home for later. The rotating taps of beer, cider, and wine are deftly managed by Katz at the bar, and the whole place is BYOF(ood). Neighbor Boise Fry Company graciously donated some prizes for our Bonus Question Champions tonight and they even deliver food orders directly to the Civic Taproom during our show! Yumm!

TRIVIA: Chessboxing. Chess and boxing. Boxing and chess. I'm still rather speechless about this one, but I can totally appreciate the desire to punch something while playing chess, so perhaps this wannabe sport has some merit. Check out this video about chessboxing that ESPN took time away from covering the National Spelling Bee to give this hopeful Olympic sport its due.

Wait...actual former heavyweight champ Lennox Lewis is a fan of chessboxing? Can you even imagine showing up to your first chessboxing tournament and getting knocked out by Lennox Lewis? Insane. I wonder do they box first or play chess first? Maybe the winner of the coin toss gets to choose...

Dice contends that most sports are hybrid sports because drinking is a sport. He also thinks that the National Spelling Bee would be a lot more entertaining if it became the National SpellBoxing Bee...or perhaps even the National Drunk Boxing Spelling Bee. Other made up hybrid sports include footgolf, korfball, kronum, polocrosse, and shinty-hurling, which all sound like they were invented by drunks, so.....

TEAMS: A dozen teams helped Dice shake off any rust that had developed in his absence! WHISPERING PINES (92) silently pulled ahead in the second half, but were anything buy quiet when they were announced as winners! Trivia legends and dear friends of Dice, BRICK (86) ft. DILDO BAGGINS brought their incredible talents to the Civic Taproom...Thank you! The MOTHERS OF RETENTION (84) surged ahead of the rest of the pack with a perfect final round.

Too many teams to remember, but watch out for MARK WAHLBERG'S ROLLERCOASTER FINGER BANG, TAP TAP, EH! EH!, TEQUILA MOCKINGBIRD, SWOLLPACALYPSE, THE CHILL SCIENTISTS, and Dice's favorite team name of the night BOB LOBLAW'S LAW BLOG...try saying that into a microphone a bunch of times!

TUNES: Putting a playlist together is Dice's favorite thing to do...every night is like a new mixtape! Jimmy Fallon performing a rendition of "Reading Rainbow" as Jim Morrison and the Doors might make Dice's list of Top 10 TJ songs of all time! Bowie, Springsteen, Stevie Wonder, Queen, Lou Reed, and the Eagles all inspired greatness from the teams. Lyn Collins' "Think (About It)" is proof that Dice has the deepest music folder of all!

Thank you Civic Taproom for the amazing night of Trivia! See you next Monday at 7pm!
