11.26.14 - On Deck 3T: Teams, Trivia, Tunes

On Deck Sports Bar & Grill - 11.26.14

TEAMS: Thanksgiving Eve and the league hiatus kept several teams on their couches last night. It really is too bad because the trivia was awesome! Newcomers F**K IT and NEW YORK STATE OF MIND took tonight's show into overtime with identical 91s. F**K IT cashed in on the top gift certificate winning the tie-breaker question....barely. Another new team, #BEASTMODE, dropped a 90 and nearly toasted champagne with everyone's favorite French historical figure...Nappy-B (Napoleon Bonaparte)! Veteran team MEOW were awarded a special On Deck gift certificate by Dice for drawing a cat with every single answer! In other news, MEOW plays with a service dog (in training) on their team...

TRIVIA: Did you know that a turducken is comprised of three birds? Everyone knows that you say? Well did you know that a turgoodukfowmalsinquaparquabantenuck is 12 different birds stuffed inside one another? Just so the record is clear, TURGOODUKFOWMALSINQUAPARQUABANTENUCK would be a terrible trivia team name idea. Terrible. Possibly a worse idea than the turgoodukfowmalsinquaparquabantenuck is.

TUNES: I'm still working on creating a downloadable file of some of each show's music...Bear with me, I'm about as tech-savvy as a 40-year-old career trivia jockey... Tonight's music selection was off the charts awesome! New Zealand's Aaradhna got our show off to a great start with her 2013 song "Wake Up." TV on the Radio's "Happy Idiot" and The Black Keys' "Fever" kept the first half pumping along. The second half was highlighted by Postmodern Jukebox's cover of Nickelback's "This Is How You Remind Me" and a song that I'll never tire of, Sister Hazel's acoustic "Champagne High."

Happiest of Thanksgiving wishes to you and yours this holiday. I'm truly thankful for the opportunity to be your trivia jockey and I look forward to each and every show like a kid at Christmas.

11.25.14 - Cider Mill 3T: Teams, Trivia, Tunes

Cider Mill 11.25.14
TEAMS: Whoa...Don't walk into the Cider Mill at 7:05pm thinking you're gonna get prime seats...9 Teams tonight, nearly 40 people. Congratulations are definitely in order for FEMBOTS HAVE FEELINGS TOO as they ran away with tonight's contest with a 94 in preparation for the upcoming League Tournament! The Cider Mill trivia team with a soccer problem, the GOAL DIGGERS, held off expanding every week team SCRATCH N' SNIFF at the end for the $20 gift certificate!  Veteran trivia teams VAN DE GRAF & THE GENERATORS and CHIMP N' IT made a big push for gift certificates, but each suffered a Synchronous Diaphragmatic Flutter on the final question.

4...count 'em... 1, 2, 3, 4 brand new teams tonight. Watch out for the wise wagering PRICE IS RIGHT; the brilliant and lovely SHINE BRIGHT; my 10-barrel buddy TEAM OLIVER; and LICKS who will obey OLCC laws and take their adorable 2-year-old home at 9pm even though the second half has barely started.

TRIVIA: Check out China's claim to each of the two tallest peaks in the world. This question had everyone stymied, despite it being one of our Last Call USA Hints of the Week. There was some serious debate among the trivia hosts leading up to tonight's show, but our crack research team triple-checked it for accuracy before posting. This might have been one of those times when I should have just played some Dobbie Brothers or Bowie. Be sure to visit www.lastcallusa.com every week for your hints...one of those is gonna be an answer.

TUNES: "The Imperial March" from the Star Wars franchise was my most enjoyable selection..If you played tonight's contest, you understand why! We managed to avoid a menage-a-trois with Billy Joel at halftime as everyone had their answers before the end of "You May Be Right (I May Be Crazy)" and "Piano Man." The second half featured two Violent Femmes songs, "Blister in the Sun" (which didn't help) and "Add It Up" (which didn't help either), as well as one of my current favorite songs on the radio, "Stolen Dance" performed by Germany's hit duo Milky Chance.

I hope each of you enjoys a very happy Thanksgiving holiday and I'll see you all next week!

11.24.14 - Malone's 3T: Teams, Trivia & Tunes Recap

11.24.14 - Malone's Cafe & Bar
TEAMS We had a major thoroughbred trivia race going down tonight at Malone's Cafe with teams vying to outwit the others through shenanigans, outright deception, and high-stakes wagering. POOP CHUTE RIOT threw back several beers (See what I did there?) and had a come-from-behind win over their former teammates, now playing for BANG!, who faded rounding the last turn. SIT UBU SIT, reigning tournament champions, finished in third after an up-and-down backstretch performance.

TRIVIA Did you know they're trying a new Doritos-flavored Mountain Dew (Dewritos...ugh)? Yeah...neither did I and now I can't unlearn such information and all I can do is think about Mountain Dew and Doritos and then I throw up a little in my mouth. Seriously? They're test-marketing that swill on college students? What happened to the good ol' days of colleges experimenting on students with LSD? Regardless, I don't recommend trying the probably-coming-soon Dewritos.

TUNES Malone's is probably the venue that allows me to open up my playlist more than most, which is exciting for me! Tonight's music highlights include Poe's "Hey Pretty (Drive-By 2001 Mix) and "Scooby Snacks" by the Fun Lovin' Criminals. Johnny Rivers, Less Than Jake, INXS, and Weird Al also made appearances.

See you all next week at Malone's!
